Moscow-installed officials say they detained 21 Ukraine army ‘accomplices’

Russian-installed officials in southern Ukraine say 21 “accomplices” of the Ukrainian army and security services have been detained in the Moscow-occupied region of Kherson and the partially controlled region of Zaporizhia.

Citing a member of Russian law enforcement, state news agency RIA Novosti described the detainees as a group of gunlayers headed by a female coordinator. Various weapons and ammunition including 53 hand grenades and more than 24kg of explosives have been seized, according to the report.

The Institute for the Study of War said in its latest assessment that Moscow is sending Russians to work in occupied territories due to a lack of Ukrainian collaborators.

German government’s tough stance towards Russia since the war in Ukraine began is coming under pressure at home, as worries about the resulting energy crisis and possible gas shortages intensify.

Until now, all mainstream parties from across the political spectrum had backed the strict sanctions imposed on Russia.

In recent weeks though, some German conservative leaders have voiced scepticism about the West’s strategy, as opinion polls indicate that around half of the German population thinks the sanctions are hurting Germany more than Russia.

Overall however, polls show that more than two thirds of Germans still back sanctions, Reuters reports.

Around half of German households rely on gas for heating, as does around a third of the country’s industrial energy consumption.

Germany recorded its first monthly trade deficit since 1991 in May, partly due to inflation running at around 8%.

Truss, a favorite in the Conservative Party, moves to the foreign office from the trade department where she has completed a number of trade deals since Britain left the European Union. Anne-Marie Trevelyan moves to trade after being a climate minister.

Truss replaces Raab, who has faced calls to resign since he went on holiday in Crete as the Taliban advanced on the Afghan capital, Kabul. He was demoted to the Justice Ministry.

To soften the blow, Raab was also appointed deputy prime minister, a role he played in all but name when he stepped in to lead government when Johnson was fighting for his life in hospital with COVID last year.

Conservative Party leadership contender Indian-origin Rishi Sunak has said that he knows he is behind UK foreign secretary Liz Truss in the British PM race but he does not think racism is to blame for that. Sunak said this in an interview with the Daily Telegraph.

Sunak was born in the UK to a Kenya-born Hindu Punjabi father, who has ancestral roots in Gujranwala, now in Pakistan, and a Tanzania-born Hindu Punjabi mother with family roots in India.

Gujranwala-born Conservative donor Lord Ranger recently said that Britain will be seen as racist if Sunak loses the leadership election while The Times quoted Sunak loyalists at the weekend saying Sunak was a victim of a “bit of latent racism” from members.

Sunak told Telegraph. "I just don't think that's right. I was selected as a member of Parliament in Richmond… Thinking Our members rightly put merit above everything else. I'm sure when they are considering this question, they are just figuring out who is the best person to be Prime Minister... Gender, ethnicity and everything else will have nothing to do with it."

Boris Johnson.

Ms Mordaunt, the Minister of State for Trade Policy, made the surprise announcement after narrowly losing to Ms Truss for a place in the final two in the Conservative Party leadership race with Rishi Sunak.

She called the Foreign Secretary the "hope candidate" as she opened the latest hustings in Exeter - the second out of 12 in the Tory race, which came as members start receiving their ballot papers this week.

Ms Truss made her latest pitch to members by saying she would "take on the Whitehall orthodoxy" and tackle what she regards as "left-wing groupthink" by shaking up the civil service

Rishi Sunak defended his wife over her UK tax status, saying that every penny owed in the country is paid, The Sun reported.

"Every single penny that she earns in the UK she pays UK taxes on, of course she does," The Sun cited Sunak as saying. "And every penny that she earns internationally, for example in India, she would pay the full taxes on that."

Rishi Sunak is married to Akshata Murthy, the daughter of Narayana Murthy, the billionaire co-founder of IT services company Infosys. She owns around 0.93% of the firm.

British Conservative front runner Liz Truss won another heavyweight endorsement on Monday as Tory members began a month of voting to decide the next occupant of 10 Downing Street.

Her lagging rival Rishi Sunak vied to make up lost ground with a plan for future tax cuts – and potentially to fund a future women’s football World Cup in Britain after England’s “Lionesses” won the European championship.

Liz Truss has increased her lead over rival Rishi Sunak to 34 points, according to a YouGov poll of Conservative Party members.

It comes after the Foreign Secretary made a rapid U-turn on a widely unpopular policy to lower public sector pay in less affluent areas of the country.

Polling data from YouGov shows 60 per cent of the party members polled between July 29 and August 2 said they intend to vote for Ms Truss, up from 49 per cent in the period July 20 to 21, which was immediately after the final two leadership candidates were announced.

It is also good for UK to have a woman as PM.
In I Ching, Woman is referred as Yin, Yin means ground/Mountain. It means stable.
Hope no more Sai from UK, good for China…
