Why only western countries? Why Asia only Japan? Japan is the worst human right abuser during the second world war. Never forget how they tortured and killed POW and civilian. Ask them to look at the mirror themselves. Until now they still never admit their wrong-doing.

1. How is it to compare Xinjiang with US Guantanamo prison in Cuba? Which is human and which violates human rights?
2. How is it to compare US anti-terrorism in Afghanistan and China's anti-terrorism in Xinjiang. US killed countless innocent people and created hell in Afghanistan but China built better lives for and good employment for Xinjiang people. Which is a better model of anti-terrorism?
3. UN report merely says "probably human rights infringement". It didn't say anything about genocide, forced labour and forced contraception. Why?
Will you choose to live in Xinjiang or Afghanistan, if you are given a choice of the 2 places?

The word is a mere "reasonable". Why a report merely says only reasonable but without any affirmative "yes, there is" and backed with evidence when the commissioner went all the way into XJ to confirm?
So, is it a credible report of facts? No, It is just to satisfy US pressure for the commissioner to back US claim when she didn't back the US claim when she made a press conference immediately after the XJ visit and she was attacked by western media after that.
When you say "reasonable", it is just a guess assessment, not factual.

The commissioner is a former President of Chile in South America.
She was proclaimed as a democratic fighter and champion by western media.
After the XJ visit, her democratic fighter and champion title was removed by western media for being pro-China.
She was in a difficult position from "queen" title to being pro-dictatorship.
Very hard for her, I can understand her position.

China is under communist rule and we can see the harshness of this rule when it implements zero covid, disappears people critical of the govt and other acts.In Xinjiang prior to this there was social unrests when Uyghurs unhappy with the large influx of Chinese into the region. It is not surprising the Chinese govt came down hard on the Uyghurs. It is no surprise also the Chinese govt would deny and cover up after it's actions in Xinjiang. All this is consistent with the behavior of the current govt. For example, due to risng tensions between Australia and China, China arrested and detained an Australian reporter. Over time China suppresses various groups when social unrests emerge.
For countries under dictator rule, there is little check and balance on the govt and what it can do. Often when the govt feel insecure it can resort to harsh actions against critics or various groups.
sgbuffett why are you using Australian media in your last story when we know both e.g. are hardly reliable coming from a member of a 5-Eye spy group ? So let's put the FACTS out to show how you spew misinformation in SG Talk:
1. Cheng Li was arrested on allegation being a spy as a foreign agent while working in China and the Australian reporter was visited by Aussie diplomates multple times since her arrest in 2021.
2. The so-called UN "report" was read out by the outgoing chief Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights (OHCHR) Michelle Bachele .....The same person who under the UN name accuses Singapore of human right abuse for our execution policy against drug traffickers...
UN Report on SG - We urge the Singapore authorities to halt all scheduled executions, including those of Abdul Rahim bin Shapiee and Ong Seow Ping. We also call on the Government of Singapore to end the use of mandatory death sentences for drug offences..
https://news.un.org/en/story/2022/08/1123852
Now you tell us - which one of the above has anything to do with OHCHR report alleged "evidence" on XJ story ?

Speaking of arrested Australian reporters....I am curious why successive Australian Gov have failed to help, let alone has any Australian diplomat visited Julian Assange since he was forcefully removed from Ecudorean Embassy in UK in 2019 ?
The fun FACT is OHCHR did voice out Human Rights abuse against WikiLeaks Founder over 8 years ago in 2016, while Canberra continue to remain quiet vs how they make noise about Cheng Li....WHY ?

What is UN Human Rights Commissioner view on the Australian reporter Julian Assange?

Please the wise one here help! Don't understand why such a serious accusation, an UN organisation can say "reasonable to conclude someone committed a crime against humanity".
Understand you are not a court but can say something like this? An UN organisation can be so impressionable? so sloppy?

You can read here:
Excerpt from Global Times: What’s behind OHCHR so-called Xinjiang ‘report’?
The so-called assessment report on China's Xinjiang region, which was released by the Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights (OHCHR), was mulled since 2019 without taking Chinese government's advice or getting authorization from the UN Human Rights Council or having credible basis, the Global Times has learned from related sources.
In response to the "assessment of human rights concerns" in China's Xinjiang region released by the OHCHR on Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin told a press conference on Thursday that the "assessment" was orchestrated and produced by the US and some Western forces and was a patchwork of disinformation that serves as a political tool for the US and some Western forces to strategically use Xinjiang-related issues to contain China.
The Global Times has exclusively learned from the sources that the US and some Western forces have firmly seized many important positions in the OHCHR and planted many individuals full of ideological bias to take these positions. Moreover, together with anti-China nongovernmental organizations, they had hyped High Commissioner Michelle Bachelet's visit to China - from urging her to come to China to criticizing her for going to China and even asking and pressuring her to resign after she had finished the China visit. They also pressured the OHCHR to immediately release "report" on China's Xinjiang region.

To be honest, I am still puzzled why WW1 & 2 began in Europe which is a region that is shares many common cultural and religion vs the regions that surrounds China from Islamic world, Buddhisms and diverse range of kingdoms and empires that exist next to China.
Also many don't know Xinjiang is not where Uyghur originate and Chinese gov regard the Turkish-origin language as one of PRC's official languages.

I am of the view we should let History to speak for itself how Western lies had lead to countless death and conflicts...based on LIES. Remember Iraq's WMD ?
Since a leopard never changes its spots, in the age of Internet driven misinformation, we should be ever more weary of stories created by CNN, BBC, Bloombergs...
