An immunologist explains what that means - and why a vaccination can also trigger Long Covid. He gives three times vaccinated an important piece of advice.
WORLD: Data from the American disease control authority CDC has just shown that the protection against a severe course, unfortunately, decreases again even after a booster. Does this mean we are caught in a perpetual vaccination loop?
Andreas Radbruch: It would be a way out, maybe not a desirable one, but still if we could bring new antibodies to the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract again and again through constant boosters.
But unfortunately, that doesn't work, because after the third immunization the immune system reacts less and less, new antibodies are not formed for the blood or on the mucous membranes.
The immunological memory has become accustomed to the vaccine. We've fired our immunological powder.
WORLD: But if I want to fly on vacation now - wouldn't it make sense to have a vaccination two or three weeks beforehand - to also prevent an infection?
