Fixed Deposit Lobang Thread
#1

In lieu of recent Spore T-bill low allocation, create this fixed deposit lobang thread. Welcome all to share.

Tenor period, interest rate, minimum placement, can DIY online are criteria for me.

The one I am looking at currently are
1. ICBC minimum $500 3-6 month
2. BOC minimum $5,000 3-6 month
3. CIMB minimum $10,000 3-6 month
4. RHB minimum $20,000 3-6 month
5. Sing Investment minimum $20,000 3 month

After some research decide to apply for ICBC fixed deposit account which come with current account and is multi-currency. No monthly fall below fee no minimum monthly balance but have dormant fee if no txn for one year. Except for this con think all is fine.

I like the minimum placement of $500. What this mean is you can create multiple placement each $500. Advantage is along the way if better rates appear you can terminate via the mobile app easily slowly one by one and since each placement is $500 you don't lose much even if penalty is levied.

Due to constant change of FD rate nowadays a lot of ppl put and terminate FD and for some banks terminate is tedious got penalty need go to branch etc so this is a point to take note. What is highest interest now can go higher within a month sometimes!

ICBC current account no minimum balance and is multicurrency. You put monies into this account and then use this account as source to put into fixed deposit account. FD for ICBC minimum 500.

Think this work same way as other banks but was told some no need any savings or current account can direct put monies into fixed deposit account. Then mature already monies go where since no savings or current account?

If not BOC lowest minimum balance of 1500 needed for SmartSaver I think for current 3-6 month FD it is best deal this week. For users already have BOC SmartSaver can use this account to place the new FD. Premature withdrawal of FD no penalty like ICBC just each FD minimum is 5000 compared to ICBC 500

Decide to open boc savings and time deposit account in order to place FD. Partly also becuz next year onwards the multi-currency savings account minimum balance will be revised to 200 which is so much better than current 1500

https://www.bankofchina.com/sg/bocinfo/b...76585.html

Counter staff also explain boc FD maturity instructions unlike other bank. They don't have an option FD mature withdraw principal and interest back to savings account concept. Instead at FD placement you enable auto renewal and you need to keep track once FD mature the interest show in the time deposit account then you manually transfer the deposit monies out to your savings account. That is why boc FD don't have premature withdrawal concept. If you do before maturity you don't get the interest.

If you did not opt for auto-renewal at FD placement, upon mature it goes back to board rate which is super low. But I like BOC for their minimum 5k can place. ICBC minimum 500 but their rates revise so slow

Update: Today update new version now FD mature follow other bank where you can choose to withdraw principal and interest to your savings account. Ppl confirm 1 Jan 2023 the multicurrency savings account minimum balance drop to 200 from 1500. This is very good so faster go open else Jan 2023 fully booked
