...Huawei launches first all-electric SUV 2022...
#1
Cool

Huawei has quickly expanded its vehicle offering with two plug-in hybrid crossovers and a full-electric version, just six months after delivering the first Aito-branded vehicle in March. The telecom giant’s moves in the space could pose a serious threat to major EV makers.

Details: The Aito M5 all-electric will have an estimated driving range of 620 kilometers (385 miles), surpassing its rivals. For example, Tesla’s Model Y has a 545km driving range, EVs from German automakers BMW and Audi offer around 550km between charges.

Huawei seems serious about this NEV business as it is building its 3rd car plant in Chongqing, a mega one.
The plant construction is super fast as it is planned to be completed by Q3 next year!

The Shenzhen based firm had been into NEV sector for at least 10 year...Just that we don't get to hear their work and research which forms the critical foundaiton for EV operations and supply chain...One of that is based on around 5G for self driving.

How do achieve that ? Huawei put $$$$ into R&D and patent applications for research outcomes.

Huawei is spreading itself too thin, going into areas that are not its niche.

I am not worried at all with its profit turnover minus the NA market... Wink

BTW, Huawei isn't making the EV by itself - it collaborates with other major Chinese tech firms, including the battery giant CATL which supplies Telsa Model 3 and Y while Huawei provide the car's "brain" . Cool

Up because it disposed its Honor handphone business and counting on nationalistic sentiments of the Chinese to buy its high-end phones.

In short, it has an off spring that is focused on mobile phones while the parent moved on to other bigger opportunities.
Including investing in countries and regions that welcome Huawei... Laughing

The brain will be the most important part of future self-driving vehicles and Huawei is not short of patents and people in this field.
And I believe chip design for mobile phones will soon hit a mature state (eg need for future 6G won't be as great as that for 5G), so reassigning the existing scientists and engineers to design the future L4-5 chips n algorithims will therefore be a very logical step.

Huawei latest video on its self-driving car prototype. This vehicle has the most number of sensor types that I have seen - Lidar (3), RF radar (6), Ultrasonic radar (12) and cameras (13)!

Indeed - The key isn't about making NEV...but the system behind that makes autonomous vehicle safe and reliable. ...That's where Huawei is able to enter the sector very quickly using their existing lead in communication like 5G etc.

In fact, they are very explicit is stating that they are not into making cars, but the infrastructure for future vehicles.

Each has own experience with China stuff. Some encountered patch works, hanging software, rough edges etc...some may have perfect ten experience with China hard and software.

The video is selling hard, and it takes a leap of faith to leap into something that's so Huawei based and proprietary. Not easy for Huawei..........

yeah...definitely not easy for Huawei considering it is against the "selling hard" by the World's most powerful gov in Washington which love accusing the Shenzhen-based coy 5G technology a spying tool and ban them from collaborating with American tech firms and technology.
End of the day, Huawei is forced to grow its tech business else where....

....and we are seeing real world results, which itself show how much faith (and confidence) Huawei has.

Speaking of real-world results...a Youtube has accessed to Huawei's vehicle development division, try out the HarmonyOS "cockpit" and then test drive "Huawei-inside" self driving ArcFox EV. Remember this video was published 10 months ago.
