It is very simple, to get a job you need a degree.  When they screen you and see you stop education at A levels, they won't even consider.

Despite assurance from govt that degree is not needed.it actually is.

Whether overseas or local you need to get one.

govt says degree is not needed but never says diploma is not needed.
if you want to apply for AI jobs, at least go and get a diploma.

you can apply for the below AI training program with stipend but it requires a diploma.

https://aisingapore.org/innovation/aiap/
https://aisingapore.org/innovation/aiap/...quirements

normal job application will be screened by HR personnel who will reject you when you do not have diploma or degree.

if you are good and want to bypass screening by HR, you need to know the hiring manager or have connections.
you need to join local AI groups or seminars to know people if you do not have diploma or degree.

Actually can. AI is not some mysterious stuff that only certain individuals could learn and understand. In fact, deep learning is still based on the neural network that was developed long ago (decades). The reason that it wasn't popularly or meaningfully used is because there's not enough data and the lack of processing power.

So it's entirely possible for an average person to learn it and to learn it fast (there's very little mathematics involved compared to other engineering fields). Of course, there is the high tier development which is done by research institutes and universities and those will need years of dedication and hard work.

It is not rocket science ...j took one day to learn transformers the technology that made chat GPT possible.

How to compare your course of a few days with a IT engineering degree of 3-4 years?

Do you mean you are to be treated at the same level as a IT grads?

Aiya knowing and doing are two very different things. A bricklayer can learn how to lay bricks in a couple of days but shouldn't boast he can already build houses.

I totally get your frustration. The job market can be tough, especially when you're trying to break into specialized fields like AI and machine learning. While having a formal degree can be a ticket past the initial HR screenings, it's not the only way to get your foot in the door.

Moreover, if you're facing obstacles due to the lack of a formal education, there are still ways to make your self-taught knowledge stand out. One way to do this is by adding well-recognized certifications to your skill set. Check out this list of the 2023 Best Machine Learning Courses. Many of these are highly respected and could give you the edge you're looking for.

Since AI already can do most of your jobs, you're still needed to do what?

It is just a fact of life that all of us have to resign ourselves to. Is it fair that you got the skill but not employed? Is it fair that someone who is knowledgeable but above 50 found himself unemployable? Is it fair that someone who is untalented could be your boss and make a lot more money than you?

Life is unfair. We just need to recognize it and do our best, regardless of what comes. If we dun get what we deserve at least we can tell ourselves that we've tried...

If an organisation seriously wants to hire a person they'll give him on the job training, send him for courses or even a full local/overseas scholarships. Most of the time what that person already knows is not that important

Take course only as a hobby as it cannot serve as a livelihood unless you are rich and have nothing to do.

For AI coding and development, need at least a poly cert. For R&D, at least a phd and yrs of experience. If you learned from youtube, no one would take you seriously lah.

I don't know who went to surface this thread.
Person who pointed out I don't have certification so very hard to get job in area is probably right now even security guard need to have cert to to get job.

Anyway since i posted almost a yr ago, I have mastered even more AI techniques like use of GAN to generate various data ....

I am not looking for job in the area unlikely i can find one but I find it interesting so I am okay with just learning out of interest....

Even to be a driver you'd need to go thru tests and get a proper license. No point telling the interviewers you learned to drive from youtube
