Actually no need to check at both customs so thoroughly. Just check at one side, or check randomly will do

My suggestion even better don't even need to check remove both side customs all can go in and out freely afterall long time ago we one big family mah.

Make with side economic special zone ; one side zone up till JB : Sg side up till Tengah side....don't need passport custom check.

Maybe ahbutt's needs based method would work well - only those really need to cross the border are allowed

Clear one time when going in and one time when coming out. It will reduce the congestion greatly.
