Moldova demands demilitarization of Transnistria

Like Ukraine, Moldova also has a Russian separatist republic: Transnistria. Moscow openly threatens the small country, Foreign Minister Lavrov calls it a new "anti-Russian project". Moldova would be at the mercy of an invasion. Now the government is going on the offensive.

The Republic of Moldova is Ukraine's weakest neighbor. It is one of the poorest countries in Europe, but has taken in the highest rate of Ukrainian refugees in terms of population, and on its territory – similar to eastern Ukraine – there is a Russian separatist republic that is destabilizing the country: Transnistria. 1,500 Russian soldiers are stationed there, plus 10,000 to 15,000 pro-Russian paramilitaries.

WHAT ?  Why so few Russians troops in Moldova ?

Western Europe should feel safe since their own countries already hosting +100,000 American troops.. Big Grin

Moldova was part of Romania before ww2

Because Romania sided Hitler during ww2 but lost the War, that part of Romania was divided and given to Soviet Union

When Soviet Union dissolved, Moldova became independent but very poor

The russian portion of Moldova 'split' from Moldova and consolidated in Transnistria

Sama sama Donbass 'split' from Ukraine because those in the Eastern portion of Ukraine majority russian roots
