NAFTA was the closest and most impactful freetrade agreement signed by the US.
8yrs before China joined WTO.
The winners from NAFTA were better educated americans while losers were less educated. This cause the income gap to balloon. Trump was able to harness the support of those who lost out in free trade and globalisation.

Will Americans have the apetite for deglobalisation when overall they benefitted just that the spoils were not distributed evenly.
The better approach would have been to reduce inequality ..increasee the public goods and raise those in the lower echelons
Trump essentially ended NAFTA overnight last Friday.
But those jobs are never coming back.
Imagine the situation becoming US vs rest of the world.
The rest of the world can just go on.
What went wrong in US is they lack the social safety nets and ideological wisdom to handle effects of globalisation. Problem was never globalisation because the alternative is isolation.
What Trump is giving Americans is the worst path going ahead he has aligned with billionaires to reduce taxes for rich and cut govt aid/services and at same time removing US from global trade system. Poor becomes poorer and end up pay more for goods.

He worked in the private sector and he knows what is happening in the local industries and US is losing jobs to foreigners like Singapore.
Tariffs are imposed on 3 countries only, Mexico,Canada and China.
Once these countries get rid of drug problems affecting US, he will remove the tariffs.
He is relooking the external fundings with outside world.
if US contributes the most and benefits little, he will quit the funding organisations.
Trump is a bussinesman, he wants deals that benefit Americans and not deals that benefit the worlds.

during Asia financial crisis, Malaysia Mahathir sought help from Singapore.
Singapore refused to help and insisted on making deals with Malaysia.
Singapore would help by making deals on unresolved issues with Malaysia.

because he is a businessman since day one.
if our Prime Minister was a IT programmer since day one, he will believe that foreigners are stealing local jobs.
because he was replaced by CECA and cannot find jobs in IT.
He will behave like Trump.
