Shanmugam: Singapore is a welfare country
#1

Shanmugam: "I think Singapore is actually quite socialist in its policies. You can quote me on that. Because from the time you’re born, you get money for being born, and long before you go to school. And then your school is heavily subsidised, and education quality is world class. Your healthcare is subsidised. Your housing, when you get married, is subsidised. Your job – money is topped up if you have low income. So which part of your life doesn’t the government come in and help? And so while the economy is capitalist, the state intervenes quite a lot, on the social side, to redistribute, with a philosophy of helping people."

when you are unemployed, there is no job provided or unemployed benefit.
you can be unemployed for more than 6 months without any job.
thus Singapore is not a welfare country.

If Singapore give money for not working, we be feeding a certain type of people long term. Taxes will go up more. Like in Australia, the income tax is around 50%. Do u want that?

Singapore was a socialist country from the 1960s to the early 2000s. Then it went capitalist with the casinos. But after the US Subprime Mortgage Crisis in 2007-2008, it switched back to being moderately socialist.

The good things observed in this swinging (slightly) left and right during these decades?

1. Singapore never went to the extremes such as extreme socialism (communism) or extreme capitalism (slavery, corporatism etc).
2. It actually can swing left and right with the same political party in control. That's impressive given that in other countries, political parties have to become more and more extreme to attract their cornerstone voters.

no. i do not want that. do not be fooled by pap.
pap always always said the same thing that said by you.
thus, pap uses your reason to reject helping the unemployed.

there are many ways to use money to help unemployed.
one good way is to train unemployed in industries which has shortage of manpower.
the govt has to provide allowance and job attachment to the unemployed to gain knowledge and work experience.
after training, the unemployed can be converted to perm staff in the attached companies.
if they are not converted, they can use their work experience to apply for jobs in the industry which has shortage of manpower.

do not give free money to the unemployed.
use govt money to train the unemployed for new industry or industry which has manpower shortage.

currently, PAP is doing nothing for unemployed and keeps saying cannot give free money to unemployed.
like that, i can also be the govt.

PAP is not doing this because the vacancies in the manpower shortage are reserved for foreigners.
PAP need the vacancies in the new industry and manpower shortage industry to attract and import foreigners.

that is why PAP cannot help local unemployed.

whenever you hear PAP MP keeps saying cannot give money to unemployed, this PAP MP should not be an MP.
because he keeps saying NO and has no solution to help unemployed.

in other developed countries, the govts are not stupid to just give free money to unemployed.
the govts need the unemployed to go for training to get allowance.
that means unemployed need to do work or get trained to get money.

Heng arh! We are not as stupid as the 61%

Welfare State for FS, FTs, PRs and their Dependents , too

where Foreign Students are given subsidy freely to study irrelevant courses we do not need

others have Unfetttered Access and no EP Limit

to come here to rob Non- Tech jobs

so that GST must be raised to "rescue us"!

Why do we need 5 Mayors and 80 PAP Ministers?

This is a ridiculous statement. Is this Minister from Mars? If we are truly a welfare state, why are there so many elderly working past 75 or 80 years old?
