Singapore, one of world's highest roads + MRT density but few own a car
#1

Recorded Singapore, one of world's highest roads + MRT  density but few of her citizens can afford to own a car.

As an alternative, all citizens must know either to ride e-scooters or bicycles.

Suggestions, MinDef should train all NSmen to drive military vehicles in those 2 years of NS.

As of 2023, there was a total of approximately 524,000 private cars in S'pore for 6 million inhabitants. That works out to a paltry 11% who own cars.

Almost every enlisted man in the SAF is taught how to use a rifle, but S'pore doesn't have a world class shooting team that is able to win medals at the Olympics. Why is that so?

Owning a car may not be a good thing.

For.example Malaysia has the highest double car ownership per .household in the world....and 2nd highest car ownership in the world.

Owning a car too easily causes pollution.

Singaporeans are having fewer and fewer children per household so there is no need for cars.

Training NSmen to drive military vehicles sounds like a solid plan. During my own NS stint, I found the driving skills we learned super practical, and it definitely made a difference in handling different types of vehicles. It could be really helpful for folks in Singapore who don’t own cars but still need to get around efficiently.

Most countries cities Seoul, Tokyo, facing low birthrate. Not a unique issue for Singapore

SEOUL: South Korea's fertility rate, already the world's lowest, continued its dramatic decline in 2023, as women concerned about their career advancement and the financial cost of raising children decided to delay childbirth or to not have babies.

The average number of expected babies for a South Korean woman during her reproductive life fell to 0.72 from 0.78 in 2022, data from Statistics Korea showed on Wednesday (Feb 28).

The Malaysian will knock your head because they have no choice but to buy a car for survival. Adding extra expense into their low monthly income.

The current state of public transportation in their cities is impossible, and the government's transportation planning is widely regarded as ineffective. Many points to Government fault. 🤣🤣🤣

LTA , Govt NEVER draw a clear line , data come car ownership to the public actually.

You don't forget PHV, rental cars on the roads. Over these years car population actually increase as quite a lot into PHV and even some car owners give up owning own car go become PHV driver. I already mention here before. Some PHV car owners in fact rent the car for " personal usage " beside fetch passenger. As long the day earnings able to pay off the car rental , the extra earnings are just " their side income " bonus. As some got full time job or part time job beside been PHV.

If houses and cars are fairly reasonably priced, then the couples have more disposable time and money to themselves to produce kids.

It's Govts fault

"Car ownership in Singapore
Singapore has one of the lowest car ownership rates, among advanced economies, worldwide. In 2022, there were only 149 cars per thousand inhabitants here, a rate less than half that of the UAE or Taiwan, a quarter that of the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and six times less than New Zealand and the United States."
"COE prices hit a new high in October, following repeated new records set in prior months. The open category now changes hands at $152,000, more than five times the recommended retail price of a brand-new Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla sold elsewhere.

This is one of the major drivers of ever-rising pressure on our nation’s cost of living, and COEs were implicated in the most recent increase in headline inflation"

All taxpayers paid to build infrastructures including roads and expressways to be used only by those rich and wealthy car owners.

In return, they paid high COE raising prices of goods and services hurting the poor.

"Luxembourg is a rich country, and one that is heavily car-dependent. There are 647 cars for every 1,000 people, which is one of the highest ownership rates in the world, according to the International Road Federation."

By the same token, singkies are also deprived of owning their own homes. 85% will lose their HDB flats when the leases expired.

High COE premiums affect everyone in SG - not just car owners. However, there are still many S'poreans suffering from a bad case of sour grapes who keep wishing for the COE to hit $200K or more since they could not afford a car even when the premiums were around $50K. These people are daft indeed.
