SINGAPORE: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday (Jul 28) rebutted a Nikkei Asia opinion piece criticising the Government's handling of KTV lounges amid the COVID-19 pandemic, calling it "full of inaccuracies".

Finally our own Govt realised the fake news from one of these unreliable fake news Western and pro Western media ...

Karma

I'm surprised anyway - our Channelnewsasia always never failed to trust these fake news Westernand pro Western media on news about China but when they "attack" Singapore they suddenly wake up and defend vehemently the twisted fake news reporting ...

I have no issue with MHA or Minister Sham for rebutting the articles since that is within their rights..

But I do have a problem with this statement, “Ironically, Mr Wong has been charged yesterday for multiple counts of possessing obscene films and transmitting obscene materials in a sex-themed chat group.”

The person is charged, but yet to be judge as guilty by court, so why is his identify being disclosed at this point, some more by no other than our Minister of Law.. Where is the spirit of Presumption of innocence? Is our Minister of Law going to issue an official apology if the charges are dropped or prove not guilty subsequently?
This Andy Wong Ming Jun is charged for sharing porn.

Maybe revenge on his part so he wrote this Nikkei article?

Identities of those being charged are usually disclosed as far as I know in most countries. It is usually the victims' identities that might be protected depending on the cases.

You are right and it seem that recently there is a debate in parliament on this as well, so Ah Sham is not breaking the law.

But, unless someone attended the court session (normally media or someone who is interested in the case), we will not know Andy Wong who is charged in court is the person who wrote the article.. But by saying out loud that this Andy Wong is the same Andy Wong who is charged, is that what our Minister of Law should be doing?

Anyway, I am a believer of Presumption of innocence. Just look at the case mentioned by the ST article on GP Wee Teong Boo. The court of appeal believed he is innocent, but can the GP still go back and lead a normal life and see patients? Probably no, since he will always be associated with the stigma of the 'crimes' that he was said to have committed.

Got pofma Nikkie Asia?
Nikkie Asia is western news outlet.
Nikkei is a news outlet that has an editorial board to decide what articles should be published.
..

Why go after Andy ..when there is an editorial board in place that is responsible.

Shannuggan should be going after Nikkei.
