Meiji Holdings recalls milk after detecting drug for cattle

TOKYO - Meiji Holdings said on Saturday that it was recalling some Meiji Milk after detecting an antibacterial chemical called sulfamonomethoxine, which is used to treat cattle.

Meiji will provide refunds for the affected products, while also assuring that consuming the milk is not harmful, the company said on its website.

A spokesman for Meiji’s Singapore branch told The Straits Times that the products being recalled are confined to milk that is manufactured and sold in Japan, which are not exported to overseas markets like Singapore. Thinking  REUTERS
