After the lockdown, the new pandemic quartet had to announce another consequence of the failure: As a last resort, compulsory vaccination is to be decided.

The emergency brake of the government and the heads of state may be necessary and correct. It is definitely a political realignment of the country.

Failure to admit unsuccessfulness is certainly one of the most difficult human exercises. Seen in this light, the appearance of the new pandemic quartet of the leadership of this country was remarkable in many ways. Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein apologized in seldom clear words for the fact that the federal government had fallen short of expectations. Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg announced a lockdown that he had ruled out recently and the need for maintaining the health system, although obvious, is difficult to accept for vaccinated citizens.
