His tips are fine but are just saving a few dollars here and there. Not wrong, but my personal tip is to avoid spending on stuff that you have to pay tax on. Condos, cars, cigarettes, alcohol. Even meals at bigger restaurant chains attract GST. Minimise what the govt can collect from you and you are saving big bucks.

One more tip. When move house, shift your things taking public transport.
