Iswaran faces 27 charges in total, of which two are for corruption.

The corruption charges allege that in September and December 2022, Iswaran obtained from Ong Beng Seng gratification worth more than S$166,200 to advance Ong's business interests in relation to a contract between Singapore GP and the Singapore Tourism Board.

The second charge includes a proposal for a contract with the tourism board.

PMO statement
Iswaran has resigned as a Cabinet minister and a member of the PAP. He is also resigning as a MP for West Coast GRC.

"On Jan 17, Mr Iswaran further informed me that he would return all monies received by way of salary as minister and allowances as MP from the commencement of the CPIB’s investigations in July 2023.

"Since Mr Iswaran has now resigned, he will henceforth no longer receive any salary or allowance from the government," said a statement by the Prime Minister's Office.

Oh
I withdrew my suspicion
Because CECAIswaran has resigned and return all his ministerial salaries and mp allowance
Which means his “makan” must be substantial to afford Singh
If found guilty, the govt should crawlback his MP allowance and Ministerial pay and bonus from the time of his first offence. The returning of monies since investigation is a given, the return of monies since his corrupted ways has to be at the point of his venture onto the wrong path.

CHARGES

The first corruption charge alleges that Iswaran, in his capacity as a government minister, corruptly obtained gratification totalling S$145,434 from property tycoon Ong Beng Seng. This was in exchange for advancing the latter's business interests relating to a contract between Singapore GP and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB).

Mr Ong owns the rights to the Singapore Grand Prix and is chairman of race promoter Singapore GP.

Iswaran is accused of corruptly obtaining 10 Green Room tickets, eight tickets named "Twenty3" and 32 general admission tickets to the 2022 Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix in September 2022.

These were worth about S$48,150, S$56,068 and S$41,216 respectively.

The second corruption charge states that Iswaran corruptly obtained from Mr Ong in December 2022 gratification in exchange for advancing his business interests over a contract with a public body over the Singapore GP-STB facilitation agreement, as well as a proposal for a contract with STB to establish the ABBA Voyage virtual concert in Singapore.

"obstructing justice" means he had tried to influence some witnesses ?

OMG.
The bribery amount is so insignificant as compared to his income... Is this really the facts or just watered down the charges to avoid embarrassment?

His annual salary is 1.5mil and above.

His legal team will charge way more than his graft amount leh...

This is so fishy...
Obstructing justice!!!

Wow!!! That is serious!
Singapore’s Transport Minister S. Iswaran resigned after being charged with corruption, the latest development in the biggest political scandal to hit the city-state in close to four decades. More here:

https://bloom.bg/3Snnmkw
Actually although the charges are serious and worr corruption is used....is there room for another view?

For example Ong Beng Seng offer some hospitality in the form of use of hotel suites which is under the auspices of F1 ....and Iswaran accepted it...

It does not seem so clear cut as he took money or gold bars....

The way business is done and deal making is to host your partners well...Good meals and lodging.

I thought its quite borderline.
got money to hire Davinder Singh and plead NOT GUILTY.......does DS ever take a case he thinks he cannot win?

This kind of charges won't get him any jail sentence...I thought he makan big money...
The high pay to deter corruption doesn't work.

A better pay system is to give the POA and all top civil servants a pay that is tied to median salary (?x times) during their career period. And then pay out retirement bonus when they retire. This ensure that they do not yield to short term gains etc.
