Ya....it's the mentality of the young Singaporeans, most of them not hardworking, always look at smartphones, use ChatGPT, lazy don't want to go out, afraid of having children etc...

Jose Mourinho has been buying his way to success at the Big Clubs, but got found out when he wasn't given a mega budget to win trophies. He won't be able to bring the Lions forward since he cannot secure the transfers of world class foreign professional footballers.

Should sack the entire FAS team. Total revamp is the only solution

FAS, like SGX are annual non performers just using up our budget year after year with very dismal results.

Malaysia qualified for the Asian Cup by recruiting talented foreign footballers with at least 1 Malaysian parent or grandparent or who have been playing in the Malaysian Super League for at least 5 years. These are conditions that the FAS must exploit to strengthen the Lions. We have foreign footballing talents like Sunderland's Luke O'Nien, Perry Ng from Cardiff City, Harry Birtwistle from Wolves etc. as well as players from the S'pore Premier League who may be foreigners, but have played here for more than 5 years.

The FAS must support youth development schemes where training has to be fun yet effective. Coaches should not be putting too much pressure on children below the age of 12 to win games. However, instructors cannot stand back and let them play their own way without instilling in them the basics. The fundamental development of skills such as trapping and controlling a ball, spreading their body when receiving it, the importance of awareness of their surroundings, how crucial their first touch must be etc. are all fundamentals at the grassroots level. The FAS must take charge of this ecosystem, which is the most basic of its responsibilities, and fill the current vacuum in the game’s leadership.

A coach is only as good as his last game in charge.

The coach is always the scapegoat when a football team underperforms. If the entire squad is dismissed, who will represent the national team? The new coach has the choice of dispensing with deadwood and finding suitable replacements.

Since almost every S'porean male has to go through NS, why not recruit the best marksmen, who will be sent for full-time training with the national squad? We may become world class in shooting.

At least FAS must show their intention to sign a world class coach..whether mourinho sign or not is another issue...or maybe ancelotti..why country like sg can only afford a cheap skate japanese coach with no credentials??

We just dun have the talent nor the drive with today's youngsters. Any famous coach money can get oso cannot make much of a diff. Dun waste money lidat siah. Concentrate on bowling , marksmanship, things that Sinpwneans have actually flourished in if medalling is the intention.

I guess all that money that the authorities have been collecting from S'poreans is being channelled elsewhere, but not for the development of football.

It is clear that Singapore is a footballing nation in decline. This is not merely down to a small population or a shortage of talent or passion among the players. Uruguay, with a population of 3.4 million, has won two World Cups. It appears that it is the collective size of the footballers’ hearts, and not the objective number of citizens, that matters. A formidable soccer team can emerge only when there is a national passion for the sport and an efficient system of identifying, developing and retaining young talent.

The lack of youngsters participating in competitive football beyond the youth level is an issue. Most parents steer their children to academic pursuits and enrichment programmes in music, art and other skills. The number of young footballers is insufficient to serve as a pipeline for the national team. There has to be an excellent talent scouting and training infrastructure, with continuity from the developmental stage to the senior level.

Our bosses would probably do well in archery since they are used to arrowing work to their subordinates 5 days a week as well as shifting blame.

Easiest way out is to sack the coach. Nothing will change.
