Duty or employment? Heng Chee How and Gerald Giam on NS allowance

On day two of Ministry of Defence's Committee of Supply debate, WP MP Gerald Giam suggested that the terminology should be changed from “NS allowance” to “NS salary” and proposed a median salary of $1,600 with CPF contributions.

Jobs for foreigners, NS for S'porean males. I agree with Heng Chee How that local men are discriminated against!

If allowance is based on duty, then this wanton clown is saying that millions of Internship from Poly/ University is a duty.

He should complete his Diploma in Singapore before making such an illogical statement.
