In the US there's no Prime Minister. The President calls the shots. 

In China there's a Prime Minister but it's also the President who calls the shots. The Prime Minister there can be called Secretary of State just as well, or the President's Private Secretary which is also fine but we know who's the boss.

Malaysia, Thailand and Japan do not have a President. They have a King instead. Japan is even more atas. They call him Emperor. But it's the Prime Minister there who runs the government.

Singapore has a President but he is not a King or Emperor, and he does not run the government or has any role in making laws, much as the 39% had wished when voting for TKL.

The very solid relationship between Suharto and LKY was a major reason for decades of peace because Indonesia under Suharto was a friendly neighbour. Singapore was able to do her things peacefully and transition from third world to first.

Habibi was not quite so friendly with his red dot comment but he knew how far he could go. So he stopped there. He had enough of domestic problems and would be way too smart to add a foreign relations problem in his intray.

Friendly ties with Indonesia is vital not so much because of the economics and cooperation but the peace. 

If we talk about economic cooperation for mutual prosperity, Indonesia can supply us with ALL the FTs and FWs we need, any level, all levels, and we don't need to take from China, India, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, and Malaysia. Indonesia has 280 million peepur. How many do we need? They can supply.. Do you want?

S'pore didn't send Tharman because the Istana ran out of pineapples and trampolines.

All are full time expect SG President who is a part time.
