Once completed, the bridge will potentially divert shipping away from Malaysia and Singapore as it aims to create a new trade route linking the Indian and Pacific Oceans and cut down transport time through the Malacca Straits by six to nine days,” he said.  Clapping

The bridge involves two deep sea ports on Thailand’s eastern and western coasts, which will be connected by a rail and road system. The eastern port will be located in Chumphon province on the Gulf of Thailand, while the other will be situated in Ranong province on the Andaman Sea.

“Shipping from Ranong port to India, the Middle East, Africa and Europe may take seven to 30 days, while travel from Southern China to Ranong port will take not more than five days.”"

.
IF the Thai land bridge can be completed by 2030, it will benefit the region.

This will put uncertainty to rest.

Singapore will also be the beneficiary becoz SG Govt always planned ahead and moved few steps b4 it happened. There are many hidden projects up the sleeves.

Recent Swiftonomics could have triggered strong support & determination for Thai PM to start building the Road Bridge.

Upon completion, the Road Bridge in Southern Thailand will change shipping industry entirely in the region forever.

ASEAN will benefit most.

Adding new advanced technology and efficiency to increase container's  speed , the cut down travelling time be further increased (from 6 to 9 days) to 9 days to 12 days.

Substantial Savings could then be passed down to consumers.

This could have been done 100 years ago but a lot of kickback and bribery delaying and holding it back until now.

Come what may..

All Govts are corrupted one way or another.

We shouldn't be jealous even Singapore will be badly affected.
We should wish them well

Ultimately, Singapore will lose its important as a shipping transit HUD and both ExxonMobil and Shell oil refineries will be diminished .

But something else will pop up

By Speed trains and aeroplanes
It's good for our leaders to start thinking out of the box and face the real challenge

Overtime, we can show out true skill and endurance
Why in WWII Nippon don't used those POW to help build it rather built the Burma railway line ?
It will take minimum 50yrs to complete this white elephant .. with land acquisition and land clearing before the building can start ….

Which shippers wanna go there unload all your cargo, load onto a train if they gonna build one or lorry …. drives across Thailand …. unload from lorry or train to reload onto the cargo ship …. you know how many things can go wrong?

On top of that additional cost of loading and unloading

Just a bloody wet dream for Thai new PM …. and maybe there will be another coup …. new PM has new idea ...
Talk easy. Financially it is heavy to build one.
It take a long time to pay n build one that is profitable.

Shipping is not as profitable as airline.

Previously, Chinese was willing to finance the Kra Canals..

There's someone interested to tender and finance infrastructure projects in SE Asia

Thailand built the biggest airport in Asia, there's no reason that they cannot build a 800km expressways.

With advanced technology, it's much easier than Metro tunnels.
Talk is easy....Why Jap didn't build it during WWII ?..
bridge will closedown and collapse

maintaining it will be costly
The Thais think SGs are stupid.

Even during lky era, we were already brainstorming and planning for this possibility and eventuality in the military strategic command.

Thai govt is building an expressway East to West ,(like Malaysia N/S highway).
Thai called the highway as "road bridge" ( it isn't a bridge) i.e. linking East coast to west coast of southern Thailand.

surely some part of the expressway is above ground level
they just need to bring down some  pillars like the recent accident in BALTIMORE bridge
they can do that simultaneously on certain pillars km away  so need to repair few sections to restore the flow
