S'pore under PM LHL: We have seen an increasing no. of retrenchments for S'poreans, 95% of jobs created in 2023 and 89% in 2022 went to foreigners, 93% of respondents in the Edelman survey suffer from anxiety about getting laid off etc.
How old is this former Marketing Head? If he is past 45 years of age, then he has probably fallen over the cliff. He will have to settle for a new life of underemployment.
This is WHY A LOT CARS on the road aka PHV.....

The govt considers those who are unemployed for more than 6 months as retired or no longer interested in looking for a job. This keeps our unemployment numbers unrealistically low.

We have become a nation of PHV and taxi drivers.
They don't take finding a job seriously. All everyday play stock market.

I've interviewed a few retrenched former senior execs, they may have applied for jobs but they are not serious about it. They would rather spend time playing/monitoring stocks if you don't offer them a good salary.

The Permanent Resident (PR) population increased by 3.7% from 0.52 million in June 2022 to 0.54 million in June 2023.
we can assume PR workforce could be also rising
Govt will need to be reach out to old, sick, structure issue workers
if they want a beautiful election.

But EPIC come wanna take Taxi or PHV don't know where they go and worst EXPENSIVE.
Singapore is too big and impossible for this Govt to handle. Even if we are willing to give them another 2 GEs, they may not be able to solve this issue.

The raising of the official retirement age is merely lip service. The govt doesn't force employers to retain older staff.

I think Govt sector did implemented themselves.
But GLC and private sector remain to be seen,
because Govt raise above 55 employer CPF contribution.
Employer already face inflation these two years, will want look for something cheaper, less illness and can work longer.
Employer who invested a lot in AI, want to trim force to increase profit.
If assuming half PR pop increase are into labour. 10K Sporeans could have disappeared from unemployment data after
prolong job hunt fail.
He should lower his expectation.

Agreed.

Sporeans must know AI is transforming the world to less manpower or at least less labour hours.

Sometimes you lower but prospective employer think you 骑驴找马 once find your horse sure throw letter. Then they waste time to recruit again.

Possibly. But there's also a possibility that they will hire you hoping that their company will continue to attract you to stay. If you set your expectation too high (i.e. want a high post or high salary equivalent to the past) then you have no chance at all; they won't even consider your application.
