Trying to be in the good book of upcoming PM?
It is natural for Great Britain to be envious that its former colony is now doing far better economically than them. It is no different to former "big brother" Malaysia which cannot get over S'pore performing so much better in spite of both countries being so geographically close together.
Aliyah the economist sneers at everyone....look at what theh publish about their own leaders like Sunak, LIZ Truss...etc this is considered mild. Shammuggan add alot of salt pepper about them sneering  at us and picking on us but please read the article yourself.

Many Singaporesns have harsher words for our leadership than what the economist wrote. Please the article yourself

and tell what is wrongbwith what they wrote.

Quote:the republic’s 59-year history, Singapore has had only three leaders. On May 15th it gets its fourth, when the prime minister of 20 years, Lee Hsien Loong—who is 72 and whose father, Lee Kuan Yew, ruled with an iron will for 31 years—will resign. At a ceremony at the presidential palace, Lawrence Wong, the current finance minister, will be sworn in. He is Mr Lee’s junior by two decades. Singapore now faces the prospect of a future without a Lee at the helm.

The investiture also marks when the ruling party, the People’s Action Party (pap), passes the baton from a “3g” (third generation) of senior party cadres to the “4g” cohort who chose Mr Wong as their man. Mr Wong will then call a general election, likely sometime this year. The pap has made sure never to lose one, and Mr Wong will certainly not lose his. He is guaranteed a majority to make the leaders of many other countries weep. Yet never think that elections do not matter to the pap. More is at stake than meets the ey

Pot calling kettle black.
Don't be angry lah, we just laugh at the UK and move on. If the journalist for the Economist is of a high calibre, he would be an actual economist, not a writer for the Economist.
L wong needs to prove himself
Build up his reputation.
The 740-word article, published on Thursday (April 18), said that Lawrence Wong will only be the fourth prime minister in Singapore's history and he "remains relatively unknown among Singaporeans".

"He was not the 4G's first choice," The Economist added while describing Wong as a "guitar-strumming, self confessed nerd" who is more relatable to Singaporeans than "most of the governing elites".

The article also claimed that the ruling People's Action Party will win the upcoming General Election due to its "unrelenting attacks on the opposition" among other reasons.

To begin with to say Wong is relatively unknown is funny. Economist do not know Sg is very small meh. And First choice Heng is still around and if Wong is smart, should appoint Heng as DPM.

I thought it is Funni to compare Bolehland with UK..Then I realise both share a common thing > They change Gov and PM more frequently than SGreans change their mobile phones. Laughing

Only we sinkies have the right to sneer at our own politicians.

Not some old, useless colonial power which has seen better days in the past Big Grin

Who capitulated and left us to the jepuns? Useless and weak Britain. Nowadays nobody addresses them as Great British anymore either Smile

You siow or wat?

Wat the f is so great abt East Coast Heng?
Angmo likes to write harshly to appear in command lah. Maybe cos Sg going to drop Cambridge exams soon so UK not happy... Lol
In all accounts and fairness, SG indeed done well as compared to most countries. Credit goes to the PAP. As a nation, Singapore is an orderly we'll run system that works well. Only in the recent 2 decades where distribution of wealth is less ideal as compared to the first generation adminstration. Again, circumstances are very different and difficult. Tough decisions were made to save the country before individuals. I do not think it is avoidable. And no opposition party could have done it better.
