"A third-party software outage impacted computer systems worldwide, including at United. We are resuming some flights but expect schedule disruptions to continue throughout the day," United Airlines said in a statement.

Major industries including the travel, banking and media industries have been hard hit.

Business as usual came to a halt Friday for corporations and organizations around the world that use Windows 10, as their operational systems collapsed as CrowdStrike triggered the outage in updating Microsoft's Windows 10.

The outage put the UK,'s Sky off the air, along with Australia's national TV and radio broadcaster, the ABC, SBS and major free-to-air TV channels. Even regional radio stations in Australia lost their news bulletins and syndicated programs from the networks due to the failures of the Windows 10 software.
