The spread of the Omikron variant in Germany can no longer be prevented, warns Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach. The country is at a "key point in the pandemic". With a view to Christmas, the SPD politician urges caution.

Bunwealth Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) expects a massive fifth corona wave from the new Omikron variant. Lauterbach said that on Friday in Hanover. "We really have to prepare for a challenge here that we have not yet faced in this form," said the Minister of Health. What is currently being observed in Great Britain surpasses everything that has been observed in the pandemic, Lauterbach said, citing discussions with British experts.
