Back in 1995, LKY and his son, LHL were involved in property transactions with Hotel Properties Limited that sparked a political controversy. These transactions, which included significant discounts on condos developed by HPL, came to light a year later. Following public scrutiny, then PM Goh Chok Tong ordered an investigation by the MAS. While the investigation revealed that LKY and his son had received over a million dollars in discounts, it was no surprise that they were ultimately cleared of any wrongdoing. The discounts were subsequently donated to charity.

Back in 1996, the S'pore Stock Exchange (SES) criticised HPL for not being transparent about discounts it had given to Lee Suan Yew, who was a director of HPL and brother of LKY. The SES pointed out that discounted property sales to directors and their relatives required shareholder approval, but HPL had delayed disclosing these transactions for up to almost a year. While the SES did not specifically mention LKY or LHL in its statement, their involvement in similar transactions was a matter of public concern.

Former Hong Kong leader Donald Tsang jailed for corruption
72-year-old sentenced to 20 months in prison for misconduct in office, becoming city’s highest-ranking official to be jailed.

A nine-person jury on Friday found Tsang guilty of a charge of misconduct in public office. He had deliberately concealed private rental negotiations with property tycoon Bill Wong Cho-bau while his cabinet discussed and approved a digital broadcasting licence for a now-defunct radio company, Wave Media, in which Wong was a major shareholder.

Former Hong Kong leader Donald Tsang jailed again for misconduct

20 July 2018
The former leader of Hong Kong, Donald Tsang, has lost his appeal against a misconduct conviction and will be sent back to prison.

"It defies belief that someone with the applicant's long experience and background in government service could have overlooked the need to make a declaration of interest in these circumstances," the court judgement said on Friday.

It also said Tsang's misconduct was "particularly serious, given his pre-eminent position in the community and the harm his actions will have engendered among the people of Hong Kong in their confidence in the way the government does its business".

The discounts were donated to charity: why the other bicycle and red wines can also donate to charity and case closed with privately no wrongdoing with a scolding by PM ?....(I think only)

Why GCT getting himself so involved to investigate their case while in Teh Cheng Wans case, LKY avoided being involved (afraid to be called as witness) , so he ordered CPIB to investigate..?

"In November 1986, Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, approved an open investigation on his alleged corruption; however, the papers were issued to the Attorney-General on 11 December. Although Teh maintained his innocence, he committed suicide before being charged for the offences, on 14 December."
