Donald Low issues apology to Rahayu Mahzam after legal threat over Facebook post

On 19 October 2024, academic Donald Low issued a public apology to Minister of State Rahayu Mahzam following a legal threat over a social media post. Low had commented on the ongoing Pritam Singh trial and raised concerns about the Committee of Privileges’ findings. Rahayu deemed his comments defamatory.

Donald Low has made a wise decision. He will never be able to win a legal case against the ruling party. No judge will dare to rule against the govt.  The wallaby will see to that:

[20/10, 9:58 am] Meta AI: MP Rahayu Mahzam is indeed a member of the Committee of Privileges (COP) and played a role in overseeing the redaction of documents, including WhatsApp messages, presented to the committee ¹. Her involvement was routine, as part of the process to ensure that confidential or irrelevant information is removed before submission ¹. Specifically, she worked with Loh Pei Ying, a former assistant to Raeesah Khan, to redact messages, with Loh suggesting what to redact and why, and Rahayu approving the changes ¹.

It's worth noting that Rahayu's role has been clarified amid some confusion and misinformation. She was not involved in tampering with evidence, but rather was carrying out her duties as part of the COP ¹.

The separation of powers is a fundamental principle in democratic political systems. It divides the govt into 3 branches: the executive, the legislative and the judiciary. Each branch has distinct roles and responsibilities, designed to prevent any 1 branch from becoming too powerful. The govt sue because they know that there is no separation of powers as far as the executive, legislature and judiciary are concerned.
Nowadays we cannot even say someone is incompetent? Can be interpreted as defamation or contempt.
Why the reposters get sued instead of the authors?
