They cant afford healthy food as it is more expensive than junk food.

The origins of many of the refined high-carbs dishes (eg of sugar like effect refined carbs like white rice, white bread) were from early immigrants who were doing manual jobs at wharves, in construction, mining etc who need the cheap carbs without many nutrients.
Fast forward 60 years, it is Time to Reform the hawkers centre food diet and culture FAST, ultimately to the goal of 50% vege, 25% protein and 25% COMPLEX carbs per Health Promotion Board for so many health and pressing medical reasons caused by 'carbs everywhere anything diet' from both local and imported diet trends..
Even Green tea, those food giants also want add sugar ...people been drinking it without sugar in North East Asia for ages...

S'pore's culinary scene, while delicious, can be a challenge for those watching their weight. Hawker food, a staple of the local diet, is often high in carbohydrates and unhealthy fats. A popular dish like chicken rice, for example, can contain around 700 calories, primarily due to the rice cooked in flavourful chicken oil. Many dishes are prepared with low-quality cooking oils, and meats like pork, commonly used in noodles and dumplings, are often fatty. Even seemingly healthier options like soup noodles can pack in 300-400 calories.

I notice Sg got quite alot of obese women.
Many men in their 50s, have big belly.
For me, I still dont have a tummy.
It is quite easy to get rid of tummy.
Drink tea and exercise regularly. Exercise 2 to 3 times a week, more than 30mins will do.
Health is the most important asset in life, not $$$.

Life is bad that is why people eat junk food. Just go to ABC shop and see women grabbing 4 to 5 packs of chips/ cookies. It is not even Christmas festive yet.

White rice and white noodles (all fiber tripped away) that derive from rice flour should stay far away, no much different from eating table sugar....
You want to eat out 99% of the time, the mixed vege. rice stall has the no COMPLEX carbs like brown riceonly white rice and 99% of the vegetable, stir fried in PALM oil.

Highly processed stuff is getting people hook on ADDED high sugar high salt, msg and other enhancers on top of the starch and flour which also turn into sugar
pretty fast in our body. This is triple whammy! Please look at ingredients list below.
