Sgbutt idolized everyone and every organization that has a nice-sounding title or a seemingly great reputation, that's why he's easily misled.

Just look at what someone who worked in GS said about the organization.

Quote:** I worked at Goldman Sachs during 2005-2009 **

Perception is everything.

Goldman Sachs has done a great job with its reputation, hiring practices, and fostering a certain type of culture that makes people believe it is something special. But you are right, there is nothing really any different that separates one bank from the other.
Reputation. They are the gold standard. They win a lot of business. They make good money. People hear Goldman Sachs and go "ooooh!" Even newly hired employees feel proud to work there because of the reputation.

Hiring practices. You may have heard about how people go through countless interviews at GS. You have multiple screening sessions, and then a super day. When people invest so much into interviewing for a job they feel more proud to work there. From an outsiders perspective it seems like GS must have some crazy standards for hiring. It's not the case. They just have more people applying than they need and they want to hire someone that fits in with what they want.

Culture. Somehow teamwork has become the norm. I don't know how or why. It's been long established to be this way.
The problem is just like the Ivy League School effect. As an outsider, people think Goldman is so great. But once you work there for a year or two you wonder what's so great about it?

There's nothing special about Goldman Sachs. Look at the people that work there. Plenty of people with crappy degrees and no real great professional experience. The people are no different than other corporations. Most that I know personally hate working there but have no transferrable skills so they are stuck.
