Last week, Putin hinted at Washington and the West about the future of Russian concessions, and said at an annual question-and-answer conference that Russia is ready to make concessions.

But he attached several conditions to the idea of compromise, claiming that Moscow's goal was to subjugate Ukraine and secure greater security guarantees from NATO and Western countries, and that he did not consider Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to be the legitimate leader.
