Based on Trump's character, he will roll back lower and move on. Keep a low profile about Canada's tariffs.

His objective now is to fight the trade imbalances and let it be known.

He will do the same for Russia but not China.

US have a lot of shale oil. They should be self sufficient in oil?

US is self sufficient in oil but there are 2 main reasons US import oil.

One is the cost of producing US oil is higher than importing oil overseas (including shipping) because of the high manpower costs, land costs etc.

The other is that the US refineries are built for the 'wrong' type of oil. They are built for the heavier imported oil rather than the lighter oil that is pumped from their own wells. This is more due to politics as having this problem allows whichever party is in the opposition to use it against the incumbent party. Stupid from a holistic point of view but hey, it's USA.

Prices will rise to cover the tariffs. The end consumers will be the ones bearing the inflation. People will be unhappy.

The tariffs also include essential goods which the US imports from Canada.

A good trade balance is when u have little deficits or surpluses. When they get too high u will hv trade tensions.

This chart tell y Trump is aiming at Mexico, China and Canada. They r the largest importers. Canada has reduced the most.
