Actually is my relatives complain this, One relative current own HDB than he also go buy condo rent out , two condo some more. He no need to sell off his current HDB flat. Whereas Another relative complain kinda weird rules , whereas She currently own a Condo, wanna buy a HDB cannot has to sell off her condo first than can opt for HDB. Thus she feel unfair compare with another relative who own HDB also own condo too.
That's a good rule and nothing weird. May be your head is weird.

Some rich folks know this weird rule , thus They don't buy condo first. They wanna own Public housing on the same time also private thus they buy HDB first than buy condo.
IF they straight go buy Condo, than wanna own a Public housing they have to sell off their condo first than can buy HDB flat.

actually you see , when one knows how to capitalize. Obviously he will go buy HDB first than Condo. Thus he can rent out the HDB to support his condo payment OR he can choose to stay in HDB and rent out the condo for more rental fee.
Whereas if he go buy condo straight cannot buy HDB as he has to sell off the condo, like that how to capitalize it.

it is not unfair.
you can transfer your condo to your family members and then buy hdb.
after you have bought hdb, you can transfer the condo back to you.
now you owe hdb first and then condo.
Aiya now 2025 already, the hdb staff must hv been sleeping for many yrs

In the past, hdb owners were allowed to buy condos for investment only, not for staying

But now they're not allowed to buy condo, so what to do with the excessive cash? Give to nieces and nephews, buy oversea properties, or other weird ways?

Yea, another way is " play with family names " Like this relative of mine who bought Condo first cannot buy HDB as need to sell off first than can buy. She don't want thus in order to buy HDB is use his son name to buy but is " wasting one owner ship name "
Likewise which I mention early another relative who is rich know this rules, buy HDB first than buy condo. One surface he own two property no need to play around his family names for that property ownership.
