A former Alibaba employee, Zhu left to establish Rokid in 2014. Among the start-up's angel investors was Vision Plus Capital, formed by Alibaba co-founder Eddie Wu Yongming and others before Wu became CEO of the e-commerce giant in 2023.
Other investors include Credit Suisse Group and Singapore's Temasek Holdings, as well as local Chinese governments. Rokid's 500 million yuan C+ funding series in January 2024 was led by the government of Hefei, capital of Anhui province. The start-up also received 125 million yuan from the investment vehicle of Hangzhou's Yuhang district government in 2022.
Rokid Glasses are powered by Alibaba's Qwen LLMs, which are also used in devices made by TCL Technology Group-owned RayNeo.
