i remembered way b4 his son became ceo  snr kwek did not inverst in china becos of intransparency n governance 
i was wondering was he smarter n better than gic temasek spore got n many glc n listed compaies poured billions into china

finally when his son became ceo city dev invested heavily via sincere property as snr kwek praisd his son got gd connection n excellent kuan xi in china 

the 1b lost on sincere propert caused few directors did not see eye to eye to contiune bleeding n continue to invest in china abruptly resibned 1 by 1 
most noticable was a kwek family uncle who was director >20yrs.

now snr kwek said his son lost so much money in china property wanted to save the company d=seeing the share price fr ard  at 13.50sgd ard 2018 till today ard5 sgd
those are just my observation n analysis

Wonder whether he git pray tai sun or not to minimise this ur bad luck

Good observation. 

However cannot blame them for trying to break into tiongkok mkt at the time, everybody was doing it, if they dint, it might have been even costlier later. Of course hindsight is 20/20, they should have partnered with other HK developers and downsized the risks.

as said this tussle cant be avoided as what chinese says

after this chairman father (founder of hong leong n city dev passed away) there was no tussle for power to ctrl city dev btwn the chairman n his younger brother who was a few term as president of sccc

this younger brother  a well known photograher  passed away few yrs back if im not wrong died of cancer

he stayed around indonesian embassy in a gcb built on top of a hill  the house with high walls like a fortress.

he got along well with this chairman no feud.

now tussle with son to prove that this chinese saying is true n has materalise.
