Trump does not have direct authority to fire Federal Reserve governors, but Trump could initiate a lengthy process to attempt to unseat Powell by proving there was "cause" to do so.  Not wanting to lower the interest rate to Trump’s order is not the cause as it is Powell’s job to regulate interest rates according to economic data
