In 2025, The Economist's latest Worldwide Cost of Living survey (EIU) ranked Singapore as the world's most expensive city.

Specifically, it tied with Zurich in the top spot. This marks the ninth time in the last eleven years that Singapore has been named the most expensive city.

Here's a breakdown of why Singapore remains expensive:
High Prices: Groceries, alcohol, and clothing are costly in Singapore.

Car Ownership Costs: The government discourages car ownership, and the cost of a certificate needed to own a car is exceptionally high.

Currency Exchange: The strong Singapore dollar contributes to the city's high cost of living.
