A 9% GST is in the cards, it will be announced after CNY.....that is my gut feeling.... Angry Laughing
GST should be excluded for essential stuffs like rice, bread, butter, cheese, jams, cooking oil, sugar, salt, detergent, shower gel, mops, towels, tissue paper, toilet rolls, toothbrushes and pastes. In other countries all these are excluded for GST.

9% was charged in July 2017 when water and electricity rates jumped 30%

$100 @ 7% GST = $7

$130 @ 7% GST = $9.10

While these countries have high taxes they also have welfare systems as a safety net to protect the poor.

It is said that in countries that have high taxes, they also have welfare system, but it is grossly inadequate in most countries, only enough to pay rentals and basic needs, like food only....... crying

That’s the problem in these countries. Spore has Low taxes but if taxes are going up, living cost will go up.

Cost of living will definitely go up, but salaries will remain stagnant, and some   retrenchments... crying

No countries except Singapore giving yearly GST rebates.

Obviously, it's over taxation IE charging unnecessary taxes
