OMG! Other ASEAN leaders watching 2 founding members at war and do nothing?

Maybe it's better to dissolve and to allow each member to go different directions.

Avoid being hypocrite.
Only reacting to US vs China, Russian vs Ukraine and Israel vs Iran but pretending nothing happened within ASEAN itself between Cambodia vs Thailand.

BS grouping.

So near, ASEAN leaders afraid of being caught in crossfire

Better not to be exposed "no balls"
ASEAN leaders just watch and sit back with popcorns. However, each .member leader's minds are calculating the gains and losses to their country if these two countries destroyed each other or it is better they stop now. Then next in their minds is this war is not my business and better leave it to the bigger country to lead and handle.  I better shut and pretend to be very concerned if any reporters  ask.     Big Grin

Cambodia called for the international community to "condemn Thailand's aggression in the strongest terms" and to prevent an expansion of Thailand's military activities. Bangkok reiterated it wanted to resolve the dispute bilaterally, telling the Security Council it was "deeply regrettable Cambodia has deliberately avoided meaningful dialogue and instead sought to internationalise the issue to serve its own political objectives".

Thailand / Cambodia have bickered for decades over jurisdiction of various undemarcated points along their 817-km (508-mile) land border, with ownership of ancient Hindu temples Ta Moan Thom &  the 11th century Preah Vihear central to the disputes....Preah Vihear was awarded to Cambodia by International Court of Justice in 1962, then Bangkok is not happy. So tension escalated in 2008 after Cambodia try to attempt to list it as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

So, that led to skirmishes over several years and till now,  at least a dozen deaths. Cambodia in June said it had asked court to resolve its disputes w/Thailand, which says has never recognised court's jurisdiction and prefers a bilateral approach... Tongue crying

Ceasefire holding along Thailand-Cambodia border as military leaders meet after days of deadly clashes. A ceasefire between Thailand & Cambodia appeared largely holding on Tuesday as military commanders from both nations met for negotiations, even as Thai army accused Cambodian troops of violating truce overnight. Two Southeast Asian leaders met in M'sia on Monday, agreed to stop the deadly clashes have been raging on their disputed border since last Thursday, killing at least 38, mostly civilians, forcing hundreds of thousands to flee their homes. The commanders of 3-Thai military units along border region met their Cambodian counterparts on Tuesday agreed to maintain ceasefire & halt troop movement, according to Royal Thai Army spokesperson Maj. Gen. Winthai Suvaree. The Thailand’s 2nd Army Region center, see the fiercest fighting, & Cambodia’s Military Region 4 also agreed to ban on firing against civilians & refrain from reinforcing troops along the border.

Winthai said a complete ceasefire was in place along entire border line, talks went ahead after Thai accused Cambodia of violating ceasefire, but it went into effect midnight local time (1 pm Monday). Thai Winthai said earlier Tuesday “multiple instances” of Cambodian attacks had been reported after midnight ceasefire, calling it “intentional act to undermine mutual trust.” Acting Thai Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai described over night clashes as small border area calm on Tuesday morning. Cambodia Ministry of National Defense spokesperson, Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata denied fighting after the ceasefire came into effect, but said Cambodian troops remained along border. Both sides had accused the other of starting the latest border flare-up and traded blame for the clashes. Dispute over their border goes back decades. 2
hours after ceasefire came into effect, the Royal Thai Navy reported fighting stopped in Thailand’s Trat province near disputed border. On Cambodian side, the head of an evacuation shelter told CNN they stopped hearing explosions.

“I feel a big (relief). No more heavy chest. It’s been quiet & peaceful now,” Dr. Moun Nara said 30 minutes after the ceasefire went into effect.

Agreement reached:  Cambodian PM Hun Manet & acting Thai PMi Phumtham on Monday agreed to an “immediate & unconditional ceasefire,” in a move announced by M'sian PM Anwar Ibrahim, who mediated the talks, his current chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) hosted at the M'sian PM’s official residence near capital KL. US & China also participated in the negotiations. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio applauded the ceasefire on Monday, said Trump admin expects two govts “to fully honor their commitments to end conflict.” US Donald Trump announced on Saturday that Southeast Asian nations had agreed to ceasefire talks, but localized fighting continued throughout weekend.

Trump warned the Thai & Cambodian leaders he would not make trade deals with either country if deadly border conflict continued. “It an important step towards reducing tensions & restoring peace and security,” Hun Manet said in a statement confirming ceasefire, he thanked the M'sian prime minister, the Chinese govt & Trump specifically for their support in the negotiation process.
He also announced the two countries will establish a Cambodian-Thai General Boundary Committee, which will hold an initial meeting on August 4, hosted by Cambodia. “Today’s outcome reflects Thailand’s desire for a peaceful resolution, & continuing to protect our sovereignty & lives of our people,” Phumtham said in the news conference. “We agreed to a ceasefire that will be carried out in good faith by both sides.”
Anwar said, adding both Thailand / Cambodia will resume direct communication at the level of prime ministers, foreign ministers and defense ministers level.

M'sia is prepared to deploy a team to “ensure implementation & observation” of the ceasefire too. Will Malaysia also prepare for others ASEAN nation to participate in this Thai / Cambodia peace
processing...?.?. Big Grin Tongue Bigeyes
