ST Jul 28, 2025  SIA Q1 profit falls 59%; airline group sees volatile times ahead
SINGAPORE - Singapore Airlines saw its earnings slide 59 per cent in the first quarter of its latest financial year, it announced on July 28 after trading hours.
This was due to lower interest income and the share of losses of associates, SIA said. Net profit dropped to $186 million for the first quarter in the 2025/2026 financial year ...This loss was from Air India’s financial results, which were not part of the group’s results for the same quarter in 2024. SIA started equity accounting for Air India’s financial performance from December 2024 following merging Vistara into Air India.

Why is our national airline led to the slaughter by Air India? Hasn’t history taught the lesson never to trust the Indians?
SIA shareholders now can blame the Indians after the Indians blame SIA... Big Grin

Financial Times, 28 July - Singapore Airlines hit by losses at Air India
Singaporean carrier’s first-quarter net profit plunges almost 60%... Net profit of SG national carrier fell from S$452million to S$186million
It said its losses from associated companies, “notably from Air India’s financial results”....Earlier this month, Tata (owner of Air India) reported that privately held Air India registered an annual loss of   US$1.25 billion in the year to the end of March 2025, the first time it had published financial details since the full merger with its sister airlines.

SIA says it was "committed" to its Indian business. “Working closely with its longtime partner Tata Sons, the group will continue to support Air India’s ongoing transformation journey,” it said as part of its results.

Pinky and the jinx loves the ce.ca ma. Worship them like sh!t. Now in big trouble
The loss is expected in the event of the Air India plane crashing. The market must have already priced in the losses. The Dividend of 30 cents @ Exdate 8 Aug will hold up the SIA price

Air India losses could widen

SIA’s share of losses from Air India could increase, CGSI’s Yap said.

He estimates that the losses could be S$250 million for FY2026 and S$200 million for FY2027 – wider than S$75 million previously forecast.

While Air India’s weak results for Q1 FY2026 – which dragged on SIA’s bottom line – could have been due to one-off compensation provisions for the Jun 12 Ahmedabad plane crash, its subsequent financial performance could remain weak, Yap said.

This is in light of the 15 per cent cut in Air India’s wide-body international flights and 5 per cent reduction of its narrow-body flights in the immediate aftermath of the crash, Yap said, citing Reuters data.
