In response to queries from The Business Times, UOB UOB: U11 0% said that it was among the first to join IMDA's SMS Sender ID protection registry pilot in September 2021.

I am surprised uob tried it first.
You see UOB no up?
Cybersecurity.

The weakest link is not the banks' cybersecurity protocols but the users.

Cybercrimes are easier to commit against individuals than organizations like banks, government agencies....

For eg, you call someone, and play a Youtube video of a baby crying...say that's her grandson, who had been kidnapped....and you know she cannot tell one baby's cries from another's....and you can get her to pay a ransom... or reveal her OTP.

They are myriad ways...once a well trained cybercriminal gets hold of your computer p/w, he can become YOU, and can take over your computer, and copy all your files.

By registration it prevent scammer from impersonating OCBC in their sms headers.

You send an SMS you can insert any alpha numeric ID you want....you can call your UOB ...or OCBC or Toyota. This is done using a simple software to add the header.

By creating a registry only legitimate use can call itself UOB.
So IMDA is already working on something which we don't know in 2021.

Maybe scammer know this is their last chance before this path is totally blocked when the registry go live.
PAP attracts Foreigners regardless of race or their motive.

The news said the registry is already live. The problem is signups are on a voluntary basis.
