An axe has been seized as a case exhibit following the death of a 13-year-old River Valley High School student on campus grounds.

A 16-year-old Secondary 4 student has been arrested for his suspected involvement in the incident, said the Singapore Police Force (SPF) in a news release on Monday (Jul 19).

At about 11.40am on Monday, the police received a call for assistance at 6 Boon Lay Avenue.

When officers arrived at the scene, a 13-year-old was found lying motionless with multiple wounds in a toilet at the location. The Secondary 1 student was then pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the two male teenagers are not known to each other," said the police in the release at 5.19pm, adding that an axe was seized as a case exhibit.

"Notwithstanding the preliminary findings and the arrest of the teenager, the police are continuing their investigations into the motive for the assault." 



The 16-year-old Secondary 4 student will be charged in court on Tuesday for murder, with a view to seeking an order from the court to remand him for psychiatric assessment.

A thorough investigation will be conducted, with the full facts established in court, said the police.

"Pending the court proceedings, the police would like to urge members of the public to refrain from speculating on the case out of respect for the family of the deceased," said SPF. 

According to a parent that CNA spoke to following the incident, the students were already briefed about what happened but were instructed not to reveal any details about the incident.

案发后，网上流传着不少消息，指有学生看到涉案男生手持斧头，站在饮水机旁清理血迹，并说：“我刚刚杀了人。”


一名家长受访时表示，接到中三女儿的电话，女儿说校内发生事情，看到课室外发生事情，说着也电话哭了起来。家长担心女儿便来接她放学，平时都是女儿自己回家的。

The 16 yr old snapped. The axe allegedly was bought online. Sometimes those closest to the perp oso no idea what is going on let alone what is abt to transpire. As for doctors and policy makers, dis wan I agree. Not enough resources given to sarpot the mental healthcare services. Many shrinks ony interested in treating the wealthy patients. Poor wans they kinda gloss over.

Tragedy for both perp and victim's families. Good to know RV students are sticking to the code of silence on their fallen classmate and the perp.
Oways thot dis would ony happen in ang mo countries. Internet and computer games can oso send addicts with pre-existing problems over the edge. 

Sec 3 n 4 can be very gangster age already. Could be a older age student who is new citizen. Anyway i dont care la just do my job and play share.

Could be a mental issue due to the competitive and stressful environment. Most of the time they were not detected in School and carried on until they breakdown

It is strange that the teenager is charged for murder just one day after the killing, before police investigations have any findings and especially given that the culprit was an IMH patient.

They need to get the court order to detain him.

Plenty of eye wtinesses, maybe even CCTV footage. It is broad daylight killing. What more evidence do you need?

Murder is only first charge, likely to reduce to homocide or man slaughter.

principal and class teachers from 2018 to 2021 ought to be sacked

Tioh, all contributing factors. The IMH doctors CMI, dint continue to monitor his condition. Parents untrained oso dunno what was going on in his mind. Cannot blame school in dis instance. Too late to point fingers, most important thing iz how to prevent tragedies [homocidal ideation] like dis from happening again anywhere. Garbagemen need to improve its mental healthcare sarpot. Psych Doctors need more training as well to pick up such tendencies. 

Mental illness has oways existed, but teen killers are on the rise due to many reasons chief amongst them being societal pressures [social media] and violent comp games.

Come on ... lets not go bonkers ..... outliner lah ..... once in a long while this sort of things will happen .... its not like every month or quarter we have such incidents
