For sure in today's context and more apparent for ladies there are lots of ways to make money. For example in the social media front, many especially ladies can get a fan base and start earning advertising dollar and sponsorship etc.
But for the old school way, it's between studying and therefore you get an office job or not studying and you do hard labour job. So getting the kid to suffer some hardship is not a wrong move imo.
