Leaders in communism in China only respect power and use of power.

1. Once there was trouble Xinjiang.
Violence broke out. Separatist movements.
It's natural to expect CCP to take action.

2. There was widespread unhappiness over inflow of Han Chinese and religious issues.

3. This probably led to a population wide suppression. Use of force and incarceration.

4. In absence of free press activities can be whitewashed and denied by the govt.
