Actually You can Disable the monetization on youtube in fact. This is why you see some Youtubers their video don;t have ads despite they are famous. Partly they earn from sponsors which they doing reviews of the products in their video. They don't want the video load with ads that all.

I tried something similar but focused on android app monetization instead. Took a while to grow, but once my app got some traction, the ad revenue started to trickle in. Not huge amounts like YouTube can bring in with the right audience, but enough to help with bills. Main thing is keeping users engaged so they come back often — that’s where the better money comes from.
