Inflation could “reverse a lot of those gains” made by the GIC since it launched in 1981, he said.

He would not comment on how many years’ worth of returns he expected could be wiped out.

Then what are they good for?
Lost and blame it on inflation?

Getting so much from COE and now want to increase ERP charges,

Fast forward, expect more increases in cost including GST, fines, etc

Clearly admitting that  GIC has made many wrong investment decisions and strategies in the past to realise losses in the future.

Who is to be held responsible and accountable?

Sounds familiar like SIA hedging and locking in high oil prices and incurred heavy losses for 15-20 years.
"reverse a lot of those gains"..???
(Ie..previous Gain and profits overly revalued only)

He's assuring us that it's not incurring additional or actual  losses
Usually by the time GIC says there is a problem with inflation...the problem is aover already.

Over the past years since incorporation,  GIC could be over stating profits and performance until now.

Strengthening SGD also causing losses.

Those created the problems already rewarded huge bonuses and now, leaving behind cow dung
