funny, is quite common what. My fellow classmate also carry pager in secondary , later than handphone. I never own it but my cousin got is not tactically a fully GSM phone is call " zone phone " must go those areas got signal than can make phone call from the mobile phone.

My Uncle that time do own a GSM phone that legend " Water bottle Handphone " beside pager.
