According to KF Seetoh’s Instagram post on Tuesday (Sep 20), Urban Hawker – as the new food market is named – will soft open to the public on Sep 21 at 135 West 50th Street, just a few blocks from Times Square in Manhattan. The official opening date is set for Sep 28.
Urban Hawker is spearheaded and curated by Seetoh, founder of Makansutra and widely known as the Singapore street food expert and ambassador. It boasts 17 vendors, 11 of whom come directly from Singapore and who have flown over to set up shop in the 14,000 sq ft space with a seating capacity of 200.

Keep doing all these hawker rubbish.
Hawker food keep it in hawker centre.
Stop glamouring hawker food and worse... Up sell like restaurant prices.
most New Yorkers would just settle with hotdogs, pizza, taco bell, kfc, burger king or mcd fast food. maybe they'd try these once in a while

According to a post on the Makansutra website, the vendors from Singapore are: Wok & Staple by Dragon Phoenix, Malay burger hawker Ashes Burnnit, Peranakan restaurant Daisy’s Dream; chicken rice from Hainan Jones, Malay and Indonesian cafe Padi@Bussorah, Indian stall Mamak’s Corner, Sembawang’s famed White beehoon chain, mod coffee stall Kopifellas, Hokkien-style prawn noodle soup joint Prawnaholic, Hainanese Western grill Smokin’ Joe and Mr Fried Rice.

So how long it can last, not sure if Americans will eat our food…most likely many Asians will eat there

Many Angmo country serve Chinese food usually are sub standard. Maybe michelin can tag their star there.

Angmoh only know basic Chinese food like fried rice and dim sum, they have no idea what food we are selling there.

Watch the part where he said the operating cost is much cheaper than food court in orchard road....he also reveal the cheap nasi lemak right now in NY is....guess...
depending on locations, types of food served and cooking standards, and lots of luck. fast food chains like noodle box selling fried noodle and fried rice with takeaways, are doing quite well in BC
got friends set up chinese restaurants in Charlotte, Richmond and toronto, all are doing very well. the late tv comedian ye feng had aso opened one in BC. food was good but closed down soon because of bad business

What about in NYC, do you think Chinese food are popular there?

there are mainly around chinatown area, mostly small eateries. seafood like lobsters are cheap.
in city area, most ppl just take street food. my favourite is ny thin crest pizza, only us$3

The pizza is famous….what about chicken rice, fried Hokkien Mee and CKT, do you think people will eat?
