He got it via his marriage to a large extent. Normally, those nationalities outside of the simple CMIO classification find it difficult to get PR. I know of very well-qualified Jap friends who simply cannot get SPR.
Japan is not a suitable place to stay for everyone. The social pressure to conform is extremely strong on top of other things.
Believe that Ghib grew up and stayed in the US for many years. Not easy for a person like him to fit into Japanese society.
Watched a couple of videos of him seemingly being discriminated there when they thought he was a foreigner.
