Former U.S. Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair gave a speech in Tokyo on the 7th, saying that China's invasion of Taiwan was "too high a risk (for China)," and expressed his view that it was unlikely to occur in the near future. He answered a question about a series of criticisms within the US government that a Taiwan contingency could occur at an early stage.
Mr. Blair said that compared to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, it would be difficult geographically and economically to invade Taiwan. He said that if the invasion failed, he "risked undermining the Communist Party's domestic political control."
