Woman pays $5 'deposit' for house cleaning service, ends up losing $4,300 to scammers

The self-employed woman said: "After making an appointment, the company sent me a link to download a mobile app and told me to pay a $5 deposit there."

She was directed to an online form and entered her credit card number, expiration date, cardholder's name and verification code (CVC).

This is why my debit card link with one of my bank account I don’t put much money inside

If low than I top up a bit

Because I noticed is literally anyone can use your debit card to withdraw money or spend. As long they know your card number and that cv 3 digital numbers

I just had my DBS credit card changed this month. Someone used my old card to buy stuff from an online company in US. I have never used my credit card to buy anything online before.

I suspect some insider selling cards data. This is already the second time. The first time, my DBS card was used in San Francisco, Bombay, California, New Delhi .... to pay for Uber travel on the same day. The bill came to about $1600++

Bloody credit card companies are working with scammers lah.

I once ask Citibank who's the party that took my $$$....they said they know but can't disclose. Lucky amount less than $100.

Is quite " impossible" depend the merchant , some don't have Paypal option or even BTC
Only bank payment mode, so you have to key in your credit card no and cv 3 digital numbers

why??  if debit card link to a bank account with limited fund, u know that is max damage if tio online hack/fraud, right ?
and keep the credit card for local purchase, use debit card for online purchase (online purchase is risker, so use debit as cut loss)

This is why I say don't put so much money in that bank account for debit card.

you read this article , the victim is using Credit card not debit card.

DBS being hacked or DBS got insider scammer?
some eateries use QR code ordering system. I don’t feel comfortable when I’m asked to key in hp no. and credit card details to make payment  Rolleyes

I will either walk away or go straight to the counter to place order and pay.
