That's what USA hopes it will be. And Russia has a lot less economical power to sustain the war compared to USA in Afghanistan. Has been a great strategy right from the beginning for USA.

The Russian army operates on a much lesser cost in Ukraine than the US Army did in Afghan, while producing better results in terms of destroying enemy's capabilities within 8 months in Ukraine than the US did in 20 years in Afghan.
Still, it will be a drain on Russia as long as it is drawn into this war. The longer it is, the more advantageous it will be to USA.

It will be a long drawn out war, with the EU/NATO and USA supplying weapons and ammo. to Ukraine.........

The weapons are used to destroy Ukraine. The war is in Ukraine soil.
So why more weapons.
So why more weapons.

Take note that these 4 provinces Russia have taken over are Ukraine's industrial bases high productivity regions accounting for some 30% of Ukraine's pre-war GDP, hardworking people & rich in mineral deposits.
For the US with virtually no manufacturing base, the longer the war persists, the more US weaponry (which are overpriced compared to Russian weaponry) will be sucked into the Ukrainian frontlines, becoming another money vortex as Iraq & Afghan were. Only this time it will different than Iraq or Afghan - hyperinflation means it cannot $$print its way out without wrecking the economy.
True. But still, it will be advantageous to the USA as long as the war happened. The war accomplished at least 3 objectives of USA:
- to drive a wedge between Europe (especially Germany) and Russia. That means at least the defence market will be there for USA and in fact, it has been growing rapidly since USA keeps harping on 'security issues' in recent years. There are other benefits too.
- to drain Russia of its resources. As long as the war is ongoing, Russia cannot take full advantage of the industrial base in the four eastern provinces it occupied
- to allow USA to use it as a reason to impose punitive sanctions on Russia to further weaken Russia.
And all this with mainly Ukraine soldiers fighting and dying for its objectives. IMHO, US is controlling its weaponry contribution to Ukraine quite well. Not too much money poured in, yet enough to let the war continue.
And continuing on the topic of money, the main thing is still inflation (which prevents it from doing another QE) which is now mainly caused by a lack of labour and protectionism in US. US will try to solve the 1st problem. The easiest is to continue its immigration policies pre-Trump but that comes with some political cost. USA will NOT solve the second problem as it is trying to overthrow its own former policies and divide the world as much as possible as it goes on an anti-globalization drive.
